Pink Eye Treatment

There are quite a number of home remedies floating around for the treatment of Pink Eye. But they pretty much come down to the same thing. Some suggest the use of a compress, which is simply a moist soft cloth or pad held over the eye, while others indicate that you should swab or bathe the eye. They only differ in what they suggest you should put in the water.
Pink eye or conjunctivitis is a highly contagious viral infection, so it is important that one should not come in close contact of others. Hand washing is mandatory; make it a habit to wash your hand with disinfectant after coming in contact with infected eye. Pink eye can be treated at home by boric acid, Tea, jasmine flowers, Honey, saltwater, chamomile.
Home Remedy for Treating Pink Eye:
1. Eye baths are a common home remedy for pink eye, too. There are a number of different infusions and solutions used to combat the condition. Commonly, they are either applied as eyewash or with cotton balls.
2. Although most viral pink eye will not require antibiotic treatment, sufferers should still see their doctor. This type of pinkeye can be associated with infection of the cornea, which requires early detection and treatment. Symptoms of viral pinkeye can be relieved with cool compresses and artificial tears. In extreme cases, topical steroid drops may be prescribed to reduce discomfort.
3. If you're planning to swab or bathe the
eye, then use something small, soft, and disposable. A make-up removal pad is ideal, or a small wad of cotton wool. Wipe the eye gently, in an outward motion (i.e. from the nose to the ear). Try not to use the same part of the swab twice.
4. Apple juice is recommended for blepharitis-infection of the eyelids-which may be asso¬ciated with conjunctivitis or come on its own accord. Peel off a two inch slice of apple, bend in half with the skin sides together till the juice appears, then press on the eye lids gently.
5. Colloidal silver is used effectively as an eye drop for pink eyes. Honey fights bacteria and hence can be used as an eye drop to cure pink eyes. Castor oil is a natural coolant that can be applied three times a day to reduce the pain.
6. For bacterial forms of conjunctivitis, antibiotics in the form of eye drops or ointment are the best treatment. This usually acts quickly to kill the bacteria that is causing pink eye, and you can usually resume your normal day-to-day activities after 24 hours of treatment.
7. Simply placed cool moist chamomile tea bags on each closed eye for about 10 minutes. Repeat this every couple hours. This will help in clearing the infection.
8. Since tea contains bioflavonoids that can help to ward off infection and reduce inflammation, many people use moist or partially used teabags as a home remedy for pink eye by placing the tea bag over their eye.
